To engage communities, NAHI uses the following activities:
- Nutrition Education using faith-based approach
NAHI promotes nutrition education and communication using faith-based approach that involves delivery of nutrition communication in special events or meetings in churches. It also uses innovative, culture and language sensitive approach to promote community nutrition education. NAHI’s Volunteers have delivered nutrition education to women and men group in churches in States across Nigeria which include Lagos State, Ekiti State and Nassarawa State (2012 to date)
- Vitamin A Supplementation Program
Through in-kind grant of Vitamin A provided by Vitamin Angels, NAHI is working in partnership with the Nasarawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency to attain protection of children 6 to 59 months in Nasarawa State (December 2015 to date).
- Deworming Program
Through in-kind grant of de-worming tablets provided by Vitamin Angels, NAHI is working in partnership with the Nasarawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency to deworm children 12 to 59 months in Nasarawa State using the maternal newborn and child health weeks approach (December 2015 to date).
- Grow and Nourish Livelihood (GNL) project
NAHI currently sensitizing and selecting communities in Lafia, Nasarawa State to mobilize women group for home gardening activities and other value chain development activities (January 2016 to date).
- Research and capacity building
NAHI facilitate the engagement of young nutrition and agriculture professional in design of program and research to address program information need while building skills of the volunteers (2014 to date). Volunteers and staff of NAHI participate in several value chain (includes rice, cocoa, and cassava value chain) research through support for field data collection, data transcription, and analysis. In addition, NAHI volunteers participate in monitoring of the Maternal Newborn and Child Health Weeks across states in Nigeria.
